Senior Accountant

- Salary range: $95,000-$115,000 annual base salary
Job Description
Eyemart Express (or Eyemart) is a leading optical retailer based in Farmers Branch, Texas, with over 250 stores in 43 states. We are a fast-growing business that is part of the VSP family of companies, and are looking for strong financial professionals that can help the accounting and finance team develop and strengthen its policies and procedures to better support Eyemart’s evolving business.
The Senior Accountant position is a new position for the accounting and finance team and will report to the Controller. The Senior Accountant will have primary responsibility for managing all accounting matters related to revenue and the inventory value chain, including being primarily responsible for accounting for all revenue, inventory, and cost of sales accounts. The Senior Accountant role will also be responsible for the GAAP accounting for Eyemart’s vertical subsidiary, Visual Eyes, which is a distributor of high quality eyewear. While the positions primary focus will be on revenue and inventory, the role may also have responsibility for other areas of accounting related to margin.
We are seeking a highly motivated professional with strong technical accounting experience, who is highly inquisitive, has great interpersonal skills, and the ability to jump in and immediately make a positive impact in a dynamic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations for all revenue, inventory, cost of goods, and related liability accounts. Ensure revenue and inventory is accounted for and reported in accordance with US GAAP
- Own the GAAP accounting and calculations related to the revenue management cycle process for insurance billing and deferred revenues
- Determine need for reserves to ensure compliance with inventory accounting valuation standards. Make recommendations to executives regarding inventory reserves
- Review and adjust capitalized costs in inventory
- Assist with the coordination, execution, and reconciliation of the annual physical inventory and any cycle counts
- Perform period-end financial close responsibilities, including financial statement oversight of one of the Company’s subsidiaries (a frame distributor)
- Document system irregularities by providing a detailed description of the issue with supporting examples and ensure resolution
- Facilitate the Accounting Department’s oversight responsibility regarding revenue and inventory transactions to identify errors and suggest process improvements to ensure accurate inventory value is maintained and accurately reported
- Document and maintain accounting processes, procedures, and policies for revenue and inventory; including internal controls relating to classification, inventory counts, inventory costing, shipping and receiving.
- Review, monitor, and recommend improvements to internal controls to accurately report and safeguard inventory assets
- Ensure that perpetual records for inventory management system and ERP are reconciled and reflect accurate inventory balances
- Prepare audit work papers and requests for auditors in accordance with established deadlines and guidelines
- Provide analytical support via key revenue, inventory, and cost of goods metrics
- Create ad-hoc reporting as required
- Collaborate on other projects as assigned

Requirements
- 5+ years of increasing accounting experience
- CPA or CPA-Eligible preferred
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Experience accounting for inventory in multi-unit retail or distribution environment is a strongly preferred
- Exposure to public company control environment is a plus
- Comfortable bringing structure to an unstructured environment
- Understanding of what makes an effective internal controls environment
- Highly proficient at Excel, other MS office products, and accounting software (knowledge of SAP is a plus)
- Well-organized with ability to prioritize
- Very good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, particularly in the inventory/cost of goods area
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting required
